Ready or Not

Here she comes! School starts Monday! Katie will be starting Pre-Kindergarten and we went to the Cookie Social at her school to meet her teachers and the kids in her class. I hope she has a great year. There are lots of friends in her class from her last 2 years of school so it should be fun. But the fact that the dreaded "K" word starts next year is a bit hard for Mommy to handle.

We are back from our whirlwind trip to California! We had so much fun visiting friends and family and traveling to Monterey and our cabin in the mountains. Now we are home gearing up for the school year and our regularly scheduled routines. I still can't believe the summer is over!

Back to Cali

We have been in CA since Wedensday and are having a great time! A couple firsts to mention...Ryan spent his first night in a big boy bed! He'd been taking naps in a regular bed at his other grandparent's house and was doing fine and when we got here his toddler bed was all set up! It was a rocky start but he's doing just fine! Another first...Mommy sleeping in the same room as both kids on our trip to the cabin. Not as bad as I was expecting!

Anyway...lots of pictures to come from our cabin trip with family but first up pictures from seeing our friends Jen and Ayden. We always love seeing them when we come out here! Katie and Ayden were two peas in a pod :D

Beating the Heat

I don't wish this heat on anyone...we have been having a heat index falling somewhere between 105 and 110 this week. That's pure misery. I grew up in CA where 100+ was pretty normal in the summer. I thought I knew heat...There are two major differences between here and there. 1. Humidity...hands down nasty and makes the hot feel like an all day every day sauna and 2. Even if the temps get to 100 in CA...it still cools down in the evening. Yeah it's 11:30pm and 85 (heat index 95) degrees outside. :S

So lately we don't go out to play during the day unless it's to the pool. We head out in the evening around 7:30, coat ourselves in bug spray (which never really seems to work), and get as much energy out as possible before bedtime . :)

Homebound

And it sucks! Ryan has a virus...one that has attacked his poor mouth and given him cold sores and other unpleasantness on his tongue and gums. The pic below shows the easy part of it...it's what's going on in the inside that has him in agony. :( And boy oh boy does Ryan let us know....he's quite the cranky grump. So, so far we've been secluded since Thursday and he can't be around other kids until the sores heal. We've got a ways to go! He started some meds that will hopefully speed it up. In the meantime we find things to do around the house. Making a complete mess is always a good time killer! Katie and Ryan are really good at that :D

Keith and I also had our 6 year anniversary on the 31st! Here's a rather freaky photo we took of ourselves on the way out the door for dinner...
