Our Star

Another dance year is complete! WOOT! Katie had her recital today and she did GREAT! Even though dance isn't my thing...I am so completely proud of her! It's a tough thing being so little up on that big stage with the lights shining on you. They all handled it like pros.

Katie backstage after we got her blanket and goodies out. They were close to the last dance so it was a long wait. She got to watch the first half with us and then at intermission we hurried back to get dressed.

My beautiful baby front and center!

Taking a bow with her class with her super cool trophy!

Katie's AMAZING family/fan club. They are always there for her and it means a TON.

Swimming Lessons!

This week the both kids have been doing private swim with Miss Sarah. She was so awesome last year with Katie we of course were back this year. I was very worried about Ryan and how he'd take to being in the pool with someone else but he LOVES IT. The first day she had him putting his face in the water...see????

I had been desperately been trying to work with Katie on her swimming and she wanted nothing to do with it. One day with Miss Sarah and she's swimming across the pool! To say the least I'm very proud of my little fishies.

Jumping in and flipping over on her back. Look at how fast she goes!

Learned the crawl stroke (is that the right term?) this year. Needs some work but still impressive!

Pretty good at the breast stroke!

Here's Ryan jumping in the pool and doing his "monkey crawls" along the edge. Yesterday he wouldn't do this!

Big jumps! He loves it

Basketball in the genes?

Not sure if it's in the cards quite yet...it's a bit early. I didn't touch a basketball until jr. high so I'm still clinging to hope! Katie attended a week long basketball camp for 4-1st graders last week. She looked mostly terrified on this final "Big Game" day. The mamarazzi were in full effect and she looked like a deer in headlights most of the time. She did say she had fun all week and was sad it was over so it was a success!

The "I'm Bored Jar"

Summer's here and for the past month I've been stressing over how I'm going to keep my kids entertained. There's a fine line between too much stuff going on and not enough. The days stuck in the house worried me....my kids don't do well keeping themselves busy well, the non killing each other/driving me crazy type of busy. So I came up with the idea of the "I'm Bored Jar." In concept it seems great...we'll see how it works! So far it's all Katie wants to do and I may just run out of cards by tomorrow at this rate!

There are rules to the jar.
1. Mom has veto power!
2. Child does not...whatever she pulls she has to do (the items aren't all fun!)
3. She has to do the activities for a minimum of 30 minutes

This morning she pulled "Swing" so off she went for 30 minutes. Could it possibly be that easy???? And this afternoon she pulled "Paint a Canvas" and she did great! It turned into a wonderful little art lesson. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Ryan even participated...for about 2 min ;)

Here's a list of some of the things in the jar...
